Metal Bellows Couplings

Published Jun 27, 2011

The couplings are designed to transmit torque (by connecting two shafts) while damping system vibrations, compensating for misalignment and protecting other components from damage.

The metal bellows couplings are composed of three parts, two metallic hubs and an insert called an element. These vary in material depending on the type and torque to be transmitted.

The element of the metal bellow coupling is a formed "metal bellow" which is flexible and capable of compensating for misalignment. It ensures that there is no angular positioning difference between the two coupling halves. This is essential if the positioning accuracy should be extremely precise.
