Imagine that you are on a desert island. There are three crates of fruit that have washed up on the beach. One contains apples, one contains oranges and one is an equal mixture of apples and oranges.

Each crate is labelled with its contents, Apples, Oranges, and, Apples and Oranges. The puzzle is that each crate is incorrectly marked. You can't see the contents of any of the crates, and you are only allowed to put your hand into one crate and remove one piece of fruit.

Your task is to label all the crates correctly. If you can only take out and look at just one of the pieces of fruit from just one of the crates, how can you label ALL of the crates correctly?

Take a piece of fruit from the crate labelled Apples and Oranges. If it's an apple then you know it's the Apples crate because all of the crates are incorrectly labelled. This means the crate marked 'Apples' must be 'Oranges' and the crate marked 'Oranges' must be 'Apples and Oranges.'
